Description
The Tibetan Spaniel has a long and well-built body. Its neck is shorter than average and angles slightly to its back, which is very straight. The ribs are sprung well. This breed has a head that is smaller than the rest of its body. The eyes and nose are average in size and dark in color. Its ears are also average in size. The ears hang down and are wide at the base. The breed stands on legs that are well muscled. The back legs are well angled. This breed's coat is exceptional. It is very soft to the touch and long over the greater part of its body.
Temperament
The Tibetan Spaniel is an active breed that is usually a very good companion for all ages. It is friendly, but may need to get to know people outside of its family before it extends a welcome to them. This breed loves to give and receive attention, but it does not like to be treated like a baby. The breed responds well to training, but tends to have a will of its own. It is an effective watch dog.
Height and Weight
The Tibetan Spaniel is about 10 inches tall and weighs an average of 9-15 pounds.
Health Problems
There are very few health conditions associated with the Tibetan Spaniel. The breed may develop patellar luxation. Some types may also develop progressive retinal atrophy (PRA).
Ideal Living Conditions
Indoor living conditions are best for the Tibetan Spaniel. The breed will remain active indoors, but should receive regular exercise to stay in good shape.
Exercise
The Tibetan Spaniel should receive regular exercise, but it only requires low-impact physical activity. A daily walk is an excellent form of exercise for this breed.
Life Expectancy
The Tibetan Spaniel has an average life expectancy of 12-15 years.
Litter Size
The Tibetan Spaniel has an average litter size of 2-4 puppies.
Grooming
The beautiful coat of the Tibetan Spaniel requires special attention. Brushing the coat daily will help to maintain its smooth look and to remove any loose fur, which can become tangled or matted. A professional groomer is recommended to keep the coat trimmed.
